Bunion Management

Bunions (also known as hallux abducto valgus or HAV) are a bony deformity whereby the big toe angles in towards the second toe creating a bony prominence at the base of the big toe joint. Bunions can be asymptomatic but it is important to note that bunions are a progressive condition meaning the deformity tends to increase over time. As the deformity worsens, pain often develops due to osteoarthritic changes in the joint itself. Secondary implications can include corn and callus formation, overlapping or hammering of the lesser toes, inability to fit into shoes and irritation from footwear. At myPod Podiatry we provide comprehensive management which includes biomechanical assessments, foot wear education/recommendations, orthotic therapy, guidance in home exercises and referral to specialists if it is deemed necessary.
